AMSAT-UK Welcomes Foundation Satellite Access

The October issue of RadCom announces that Foundation licensees will have access to the Amateur Satellite Service.

RadCom has annouced that Foundation holders will have access to the Amateur Satellite Service. It is likely that this change will take effect from December.

They will be able to work through the many Amateur Satellites as well use the Voice and Packet repeaters on the International Space Station (ISS). They can also talk directly to Astronauts in space. All three astronauts currently onboard the ISS are licenced Radio Amateurs and in their spare time operate the ISS Amateur Radio Station usually on 145.800 MHz FM.

AMSAT-UK is delighted that the new licence will allow full satellite access to Foundation holders. This will enable these enthusiastic operators to experience the thrills and challenges of space communications.

AMSAT-UK would like to thank the RSGB for its support in regards to this change.

Every year AMSAT-UK runs a Satellite Beginners Workshop to teach newcomers how to operate through the satellites. Now that Foundation holders have this valuable new privilege AMSAT-UK can look forward to record numbers attending the next workshop.

AMSAT-UK produces a newsletter (Oscar News) packed full of Amateur Satellite information.
