The
dates of the AMSAT-UK Colloquium for 2006 are Friday 28
July to Sunday 30 July. The venue is as previous years
at the University of Surrey, Guildford, UK
This will
be our 21st Colloquium, and as usual, we hope to hope have an
interesting and fun programme for all our visitors.
As always, the Colloquium is a chance to talk to the satellite designers and builders, and to find out how to use amateur radio satellites. We have a beginners session on Friday afternoon, so try and attend that day if you are a new comer.
A major change this year is that we will be holding the event in the new Management Building/lecture theatre. This is a much newer, brighter, nicer building that the one used in previous years, and its location can be found here. We hope you enjoy the new surroundings. All the normal facilities will be there. Another change this year, is that to save too much walking, lunch will be a buffet style meal in the main concourse of the New Management Building adjacent to the lecture theatre on all days of the Colloquium.
As in
previous years, you DO NOT have to be a member of AMSAT
to attend, and you can either stay overnight in the University's
student accommodation, or attend as a "Day Visitor" for
one or more days. If you wish to spend an extra night either before or after the event, this is possible, and can be booked on the booking form when available. Day visitors MUST book at least a week in advance, and the price will include a buffet lunch.
A booking form, and registration details will be posted here
when available, meanwhile these pages hopefully give you an
idea of what to expect - its an excellent weekend for anyone interested in amateur satellites! |
Stop Press (19 Jun 06). Dr. S. Peter Worden (Brig Gen USAF, Retd) will make a Keynote presentation entitled: "The Case for a Global NEO Mitigation Strategy" - looking at what we
could do to avoid the threat of catastrophic collision by a Near Earth
Object.
This presentation will take place on Friday afternoon. Pete Worden is director of NASA’s Ames Research Center in San Jose, California, USA. More info on Gen Worden at http://www.thespacereview.com/article/612/1
