AMSAT-UK Colloquium - Notes for Speakers

Format for Papers to be printed in the Proceedings, from our Editor.

Rule number 1 - MAXIMUM six pages

The preference is for Word documents, Please dont go to the trouble of setting up things like paragraph numbering, margins, etc etc. This only makes it harder for us to import you document into one big one. (Sub Documents are a NIGHTMARE!).

Failing this the next best alternative is plain ascii text with a hard copy if a specific layout is required.

Please e-mail the papers to g3wgm - at -- amsat.org.

Other general notes

Presentation duration
: We try to stick very firmly to timing; if you feel your presentation will need more time than (the usual) 30 minutes including questions, please let us know as soon as possible. Alternatively, if you feel you can only keep going for 15 mins, please tell us, and we can adjust the programme accorsingly

Audio-visual aids: Our normal way of providing visual aids is with the use of Microsoft PowerPoint. Please bring a CD or memory stick with you file on it, and check in with our AVA person well before you are due to speak to ensure no last minute hickups. Overhead projectors, laser pointer, video projector ( please warn us if you are bringing a video, tapes should be in VHS-PAL format), speaker's microphone. AC power (240v 50Hz) will be available at the rostrum should you require to power a demonstration. Amsat-UK provide a computer so you only need bring a CD or a floppy - we would prefer this rather than trying to reconfigure your computers to suit external VGA and the correct definition etc (but aim for it to be readable at 800 x 600 resolution) or you could even email the file to Graham, g3vzv -- at -- amsat.org beforehand. Please dont contact Graham 15 mins before your presentation, and expect him to magically import your wonderful jpg files into Power Point!

Handouts: The University conference office make a charge for each facility used; and photo-copying costs are high. If you wish to distribute material on paper we would appreciate you bringing the handouts with you (sufficient for the expected audience of about 100) or make special arrangements with us at least two weeks before the event.

[All photo-copying by the University is charged at 10p per page (i.e. one pound sterling per ten pages). If you use their facility, you will have to pay for it.] There is also a possibility that Amsat-UK's copier might be available slightly cheaper.

If you have any other needs please let us know.
